Overview
This Energy Insights report describes the real and perceived restrictions to incorporating greater levels of renewables — particularly wind energy — onto the grid. It presents potential solutions underway and also provides five case studies of state-level approaches that are attempting to better coordinate transmission capacity development with new renewable generation and associated system integration.
According to Nadav Enbar, research analyst, Energy Insights, "Utilities, renewable industry stakeholders, and government policy makers are collectively making strides to better accommodate greater levels of intermittent renewables on the U.S. transmission system. However, greater and sustained investment will be necessary to parlay existing momentum into more definitive results."
